The Washington Afro-American newspaper published this photographic "murder map" that shows the killing locations of Jarvis Theodore Roosevelt Catoe, better known as the D.C. Strangler.
Catoe murdered at least eight women and likely had more victims. He was born in South Carolina, but moved to Washington, D.C. in 1929 to live with his brother. Around the time of his move, he suffered a head injury and began to act oddly, racking up charges for indecent exposure and traffic violations.
His first victim (1935) was 65-year-old Florence Dancy. Catoe would often pose as a prospective tenant or a handyman, then attack his victims once he entered the home.
After being convicted of the 1941 murder and rape of Rose Abramovitz, Catoe was executed in 1943.
With the exception of 307 Virginia Ave S.E., all the locations on the map are still standing.
